After Survival: How a Hurt but Successful Child Might Meet His Father Again

Image
Now that you are grown, what do you do with the parent who hurt you—and also sacrificed for you? For many adult children, success does not bring closure. It brings distance, clarity, and an uncomfortable power shift . The father who once controlled the household now ages. The child who once endured now earns, decides, and lives independently. And somewhere between obligation and resentment, a relationship continues—uneasy, unresolved. So how should a hurt but successful child react to his father now? First: by letting go of the need to rewrite the past There is a temptation to wait for acknowledgment—an apology that fully understands the harm, a confession that makes sense of the pain. But many parents, especially those shaped by poverty, violence, or rigid cultural expectations, are unable to articulate remorse in the language their children need. The adult child does not need his father to fully understand in order to heal. Closure does not require agreement. It requires acceptance t...

Growing Up “Fine”: When Survival Is Mistaken for Success

Image
Perhaps the more honest answer is this: two things can be true at once. A parent can try and still fail. A child can succeed and still hurt. Gratitude does not require silence, and understanding does not erase accountability.                                                From the outside, it looked like a good home. A parent in a respectable government job. A schoolteacher—someone entrusted to shape young minds, teach discipline, patience, and good values. Stable income. Moral authority. In the eyes of relatives, neighbors, and society, this child was lucky. He was expected to grow up well, to be guided properly, to become someone stable and successful. And in many ways, he did. He finished tertiary education . He found a good job. His salary was above average. On paper, this is a success story—the kind often used to prove that hardship builds character. But memory is...

When Time Slips Through My Fingers

Image
She has finished primary school . Just like that. My daughter is 12, turning 13 — standing at the doorway of secondary school , with a confidence that surprises me and a gentleness that still feels familiar.  I teared up thinking about the years it took to get here: the sleepless nights, the scraped knees, the lunches packed in a rush, the conversations before bedtime that stretched longer than planned.  Somehow, all of that shaped her into this beautiful young lady. There are moments when I wish she were still the baby I once held so closely. Moments when I wish I were still the mother she always needed — the center of her small universe.  But when I watch her laugh with her friends, fully present in their companionship, I understand that her world has expanded. She has new priorities now, and that is exactly how it should be. Secondary school awaits her, and I know it will be demanding — packed schedules, new expectations, new pressures.  Im growing as well....

What to expect in raising a 6-year-old child?

Image
Daughter is turning 6 in few more weeks. It was another memorable period spent with her to see how she grows from total dependent to partial independent kid. COGNITIVE  The first six years are indeed a crucial period for parents to instill what is right or wrong, the house principle and etc.  I am glad that my girl has the idea that drink a lot of water, avoid sugary, vegetables and fruits are good for your health, always wash hands, and sleep boost her immune system.  Another thing is we do let her know about environmental especially on the issue of single-use plastic killed marine life such as turtles.  As she is already attending preschool, it is undeniable that she gets influenced by her friends and teachers on certain beliefs...and the way they speak (which is not necessarily positive) . But, I keep on reinforce the right value, although it may or may not register on her mind. After all, the kid spends 8 hours a day at school for five day...

Review on Qdees school.

Image
This post is merely on personal view of the Qdees kindergarten which I enroll my daughter in this year. The principal has recently posted in parents-teacher Whatsapp group that the franchise has been awarded SME Brand Excellence Award in Best Global Franchise Model 2016 by SME Malaysia. Well, the excellence award obviously meant for business specifically the people who want to make money from early learning institutions...the information does not really relay the significance for parents whose main concern is their children's well-being at the school.  Back to my parenting point of view, the reason I chose the school is I believe with certain standards to comply, I hope that my daughter will be taken good care of while I go to work. In short, no abuse. Image grabbed from Qdees website I paid over thousand include the monthly RM450 during registration in Dec 2016. The payment also include two (ugly) grey color uniform (with not-so-good)cloth quality, a set of...

How to survive life as a single mom with young kids.

Image
First and most important rule NEVER choose/become one unless it is unavoidable for cases like the husband is sick, a marine or serving the country and etc. As for now, I am literally a single mom who have chosen not to follow husband to peninsular Malaysia for his two years studies. Now, it has been four months (only). I have already felt the pinch of having to struggle alone in making both work, toddler and everything alright. There had been bad occassions such as earthquake, car broke down, problematic babysitter and work overloads that made myself miserable in coping and swallowing them all by myself. When I bring the toddler out and see others have both of their parents, I really hope it won't hurt my toddler who might question, "where is her daddy?" But I know I have to set formula to make me survive those perils. 1/Ask blessing, courage and protection from God.  Be at any condition, we need His help to protect and bless what we do and ...
