Sinalau Bakas, the best food in Sabah, said an Orang Putih.

Image
It is a shame that as a local, I only get interested to taste fresh Sinalau Bakas at Kampung Kelawat. A stop enroute to Kundasang from Tamparuli. Just key in Kampung kelawat in waze or google maps for the direction.  In this post, I will share my own experience having the food at the Kampung.  Meet Mariana, a local who runs the stall for the past eight years. She gets the supply from Lahad Datu.  Fresh wild boar grilled above low fire made the meat tender and fragrant.  RM20 per kilogramme.  You may choose the fatty part or lean meats. It is priced at RM20 per kilogramme. Some said the meat used to cost at RM15 per kilogramme only.  A choice of the fatty part or ribs.  I recommend to try both. The fatty part is not that "oily" as you will taste the juice oozing out as you chew them in your mouth. But, I think the rib part is even more delicious especially when you dip with soy sauce condiment.  If you drink alcohol, this will be

Bell's burger Kota Kinabalu (Personal)

Image
People around me have recently are abuzz about the Bell's Burger at Signal Hill, Kota Kinabalu.  I decided to give it a try and the post here is merely personal view.  Such publicity even lured foreigner to go to the place for dinner. Pardon me for the bad photograph of the food I ordered at the Bell's burger. I remember ordering lamb burger which is at RM7++. A little bit disappointed with how it was served. Splashes of chili sauce all over the fries. How am I supposed to share with my young child. The bun was quite soggy and the patty had taste but...did not fulfill my expectation. Nachos at RM3. Again, the sauce spoiled everything and nachos are obviously from the packed nachos sold at supermarket.  Ordered another dish- hot dog bun. It looks appetizing but cannot really finish them.  Maybe the selling point is the so called hipster ambiance, where staff prepare food from the mini bus. But, besides that, it was quite hot and pre

A train ride to Papar, Sabah on Sunday

Image
Run out of idea where to bring your children to on weekends? Why not go for a short trip to Papar on Papar?  The double-coach train, which departs from Tanjung Aru station (behind aeropod building along Jalan Kepayan), is an affordable and enjoyable experience for kids and adults who have yet experience peninsular Malaysia's LRT, MRT, monorail or KTMB. Ticket fare for adults and children.  Ticket fare for adult is RM1.95 while children is RM0.95 from Tanjung Aru to Papar. The 90-min journey will cover Tanjung Aru, Putatan, Kinarut, Kawang and Papar.  Earlier we checked on the the train schedule, apparently it arrives 15 minutes earlier than scheduled 7.45am, To be safe, always spare some 15-20minutes. The perks of getting up from Tanjung Aru station on weekends probably will have seats for you rather than other stations. Some of the lush green view en route to Papar.  Alight from the train at Papar station.  We reached around 9am. Staf

It is tiring to be a single mom for a long period of time.

I cant wait for husband to come back to us after living apart for close to a year. This Holy week, I guess I will just need to pray more for him to pass his examination so there would not be another six months extension for his Masters study.  As a working mother to a preschooler, I find myself racing with time and being very disciplined in everything I do.  On weekdays, I have to get up the latest at 5.30am to prepare daughter and myself for her school and my work.  It looks so early and plenty of time to use but in reality they just slip through my fingers after only few things are done.  Usually will start with boiling water to prepare her morning milk and my #Anlene drink. As I wait for the water to boil,, will do a 7-minute workout to wake myself up.  Next task is to prepare daughter's morning lunchbox and myself having quick breakfast while watching e-newspaper. Usually will stuck in between breakfast and shower if there is interesting news c

Review on Qdees school.

Image
This post is merely on personal view of the Qdees kindergarten which I enroll my daughter in this year. The principal has recently posted in parents-teacher Whatsapp group that the franchise has been awarded SME Brand Excellence Award in Best Global Franchise Model 2016 by SME Malaysia. Well, the excellence award obviously meant for business specifically the people who want to make money from early learning institutions...the information does not really relay the significance for parents whose main concern is their children's well-being at the school.  Back to my parenting point of view, the reason I chose the school is I believe with certain standards to comply, I hope that my daughter will be taken good care of while I go to work. In short, no abuse. Image grabbed from Qdees website I paid over thousand include the monthly RM450 during registration in Dec 2016. The payment also include two (ugly) grey color uniform (with not-so-good)cloth quality, a set of

I am 30.

Image
Wake up and it is Feb 15.  I was like, is it real that I turn 30 today? There is not much of changes in body as I look into the mirror? Are there more wrinkles appeared on my face? Have some of my flesh turns involuntary flabby despite my consistent 10 minutes daily toning workout?  I wished I could say.."Am I taller now?" as how my 3-year-old daughter thinks of what birthday celebration is meant? But I know it is not the case.  Am working today thus not expecting much about special celebration but husband who is from me made the effort to call at the stroke of midnight to wish me; colleagues bought cakes and sang birthday song at the office; a friend bought a February birthstone pendant for me and good lunch; another tea time treat from another old friend.  Been receiving messages- whatsapp and facebook messenger- to wish me good birthday. It was a warm greeting as some have not in contact for nearly a year.

Smokers are criminals.

Image
smokers are idiotly selfish Those who smoke inside a restaurant is a jerk! Full stop.  Hopefully he will die of lung cancer tomorrow. For girls who have smoking boyfriends, dump them immediately cause they will kill you and your future children.  According to World Health Organisation, passive smoking kills 600,000 a year, including 165,000 children.  He is even a fool who waste additional rm10 per packet instead of invest the money in something else. And his kiss tastes acidic and ashy (I googled it, not that I've tasted it before).  Another googling result,  "Using recent health and medical spending surveys, researchers calculated that 8.7 percent of all healthcare spending, or  $170 billion  a year, is for illness caused by tobacco smoke, and public programs like Medicare and Medicaid paid for most of these costs."
