A train ride to Papar, Sabah on Sunday

Run out of idea where to bring your children to on weekends? Why not go for a short trip to Papar on Papar?

The double-coach train, which departs from Tanjung Aru station (behind aeropod building along Jalan Kepayan), is an affordable and enjoyable experience for kids and adults who have yet experience peninsular Malaysia's LRT, MRT, monorail or KTMB.

Ticket fare for adults and children.

Ticket fare for adult is RM1.95 while children is RM0.95 from Tanjung Aru to Papar. The 90-min journey will cover Tanjung Aru, Putatan, Kinarut, Kawang and Papar.

Earlier we checked on the the train schedule, apparently it arrives 15 minutes earlier than scheduled 7.45am, To be safe, always spare some 15-20minutes.

The perks of getting up from Tanjung Aru station on weekends probably will have seats for you rather than other stations.

Some of the lush green view en route to Papar.

Alight from the train at Papar station.  We reached around 9am.

Staff checking tickets in the midst of journey.

Last two station before our destination.

This double coach is new and air-conditioned.

You will definitely see beautiful and excited kids with their parents non-stop explaining stuff to them.
Since it was still early, we looked for some Chinese coffee shop for breakfast.

Cha Sau noodle is RM6, Duck noodle is RM7. Both taste yummy

People here love to cycle around on their bikes...

About seven minutes walk, you may reach Papar river front. It is quite new so there are yet anything happening there. I guess people will love to stay there during evening.

From river front, we called Grab car, yes, Grab car to pick us up to Kimanis Tagal river. The return fee is just RM46 with 5 people. Still good, and the driver knows the way.

Reach the place in about 30 minutes.

Big Pelian fish, clear water and less crowded. Entrance fee for Adult is RM3, while children is RM1. The place is managed by locals as well as the Sabah Fisheries Department.

We leave the place around 1130am and reach Papar train station in time for the Kota Kinabalu bound train. There are so many people heading to state capital.

The return train journey is an ordeal especially if you bring your kids, no seats, crowded. Unlike in other developed countries, passengers even young man will pretend that they do not see mothers carrying their sleeping children and thus make you stand in that shaky train for hours.

In the midst of journey, we were told to change to another older version of train without getting explanation from their staff.

The old version of Sabah Railway system

Hot, fans not working and crowded..I got my makeup melted...

Conclusion is avoid train going back to KK at all cost...just grab a mini bus or drive own car.
