Sinalau Bakas, the best food in Sabah, said an Orang Putih.

It is a shame that as a local, I only get interested to taste fresh Sinalau Bakas at Kampung Kelawat. A stop enroute to Kundasang from Tamparuli. Just key in Kampung kelawat in waze or google maps for the direction.

In this post, I will share my own experience having the food at the Kampung.

Meet Mariana, a local who runs the stall for the past eight years. She gets the supply from Lahad Datu.

Fresh wild boar grilled above low fire made the meat tender and fragrant.

RM20 per kilogramme.
You may choose the fatty part or lean meats. It is priced at RM20 per kilogramme. Some said the meat used to cost at RM15 per kilogramme only.

A choice of the fatty part or ribs.

I recommend to try both. The fatty part is not that "oily" as you will taste the juice oozing out as you chew them in your mouth. But, I think the rib part is even more delicious especially when you dip with soy sauce condiment.

If you drink alcohol, this will be a good "pusas" for you and of course your drinking buddy.

Steamed Tapioca.

Another must try delicacy is the steamed tapioca priced at RM5 per set.

The steamed tapioca is fried using a special frying pan from Indonesia. The combination of two cooking methods- steam and fry- made the food tender inside and crispy outside. They are also cooked upon request, the waiting is approximately 15-20mins.  You may want to order this while enjoying your bakas.

Wanted to try this, but Aunty Marianna said they are only available during morning at weekends.

Need to go? There is a washroom at the end of the row of stalls. The hygiene level is acceptable, but do bring own tissue paper and hand sanitiser.
