Is it okay for a couple opts for no children?

Came across an article by The New Straits Times on "Many couples choose not to have children".

It is an interesting article that discuss at length of the reasons that married couples are looking into such direction.

Briefly, reasons behind the decision include inability to conceive; hardly to survive financially even with double-income family; as well as career-oriented.

What shocked me more is the article stated that besides women focusing on career, it also highlighted that a marriage institution nowadays is more to high-ranking men telling their wives "you would be lucky if you see me tonight" due to job commitment.

I believe it is a tough decision for every couple when it comes to whether having or not having own kids.

Another human in the family, especially minors, mean there would be more expenses incured. On today's world, where everything require money. Is it wise to have many kids? Perhaply two would be ideal or maximum for family who come from middle income group.

When it comes to where both parents are in working group, it is often a headache to look for the "best" childcare for young kids.

It is definitely a blessing if couples get a great and atypical mother-in-law that are willing to look after the kid. But, due to different era and knowledge on childcare, granny might still apply the old school babysitting approach which would not be good for your kid.

For example, rocking the baby (baby shock syndrome); let them eat solid before baby turns 6-month-old; feeding boiled water instead of recommended breast milk etc.

Second option.  which childcare centre? the least monthly fee that I know in Sabah starts from RM300 per kid.   How do you know or have a peace in mind that the caregiver at Childcare Centre would not do anything bad, or by accidentally hurt your child?

Nanny at your home, while kid's parents are at workplace? Hmmm...unless you are lucky. But, when you find that you are unlucky, it is usually too late whereby the baby is already harmed.

The article did mention that the decisions of said couples would eventually lead to aging nation, and at one point, the country has to legalise foreigners to cope with the lack of human resource in future.

It is a fact but it is still feel strange that a two-person's decision could actually cause ripple effect that would negatively affect the country's economic situation in future.
