What to expect in raising a 6-year-old child?

Daughter is turning 6 in few more weeks. It was another memorable period spent with her to see how she grows from total dependent to partial independent kid.

COGNITIVE

The first six years are indeed a crucial period for parents to instill what is right or wrong, the house principle and etc.

I am glad that my girl has the idea that drink a lot of water, avoid sugary, vegetables and fruits are good for your health, always wash hands, and sleep boost her immune system.

Another thing is we do let her know about environmental especially on the issue of single-use plastic killed marine life such as turtles.

As she is already attending preschool, it is undeniable that she gets influenced by her friends and teachers on certain beliefs...and the way they speak (which is not necessarily positive) . But, I keep on reinforce the right value, although it may or may not register on her mind. After all, the kid spends 8 hours a day at school for five days.

PHYSICAL DEVELOPMENT

My girl eats a lot especially after school. She always need to have supper immediately after dinner. But, her body figure is still maintained but growing taller. (I need to measure her height)

We do give her "albendazole" medication as prophylaxis for worms infestation in her gut.

Not really fond of walking too much. But, occasionally she will want to run...and of course jumping. There is a reason "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the bed" becomes a nursery rhyme.

Motor Skill development

We signed her up with @Global Art weekly lesson, she looks forward to every Wednesday to attend the lesson at her school. The class teaches how to put on colors nicely and harmony.

But it is not enough for her. Kiddo still wants to do extra drawing and coloring. Luckily, it is a no-no for her to draw on the wall, it never happened though.

Extra Skills

It is not like we did not have her to take up any additional classes. We did for Ukelele, Swimming and Coding. But, she has no patience in any of them. It is just five minutes passion.

Slowly, we teach and allow her to cook some meals such as the omelette, making own toast bread. She is now learned the routine to put her dishes back to sink after done with it.

She could do her own laundry and fold clothes....if she is in the mood.

It is also her own responsibility to pack and unpack daycare bag. or else she would not have clean clothes to change the next day. (She is so adorable when diligently does it.)

She helps in cleaning the house (but, keeps messing up with her toys).

READING. I am not good with phonic, but when we do reading together, Ill guide her read word by word. She is now keen and excited to spell out everything she sees.

Social Skill

She is extrovert when she is around with familiar people. Picked up a lot of not-so-polite words from schools, awesome vocabulary from Youtube, and stick to English communication but understand Chinese and Bahasa Malaysia.

She loves singing, able to memorise lyrics.
