How much is too much to have a pregnant coworker to say "I can't go to work today because I'm pregnant"?

The title itself is indeed sound very mean towards a pregnant mother who keeps on skipping work because she is expecting.

Just like how some people are having bad menstrual period every month that they can't even to go to school, work or even go about their daily lives. I get it!!!

I am also a working mother who used to carry my big belly but I obliged to my duty as required.  I do feel lucky that my discomforts- morning sickness, swollen feet and fatigue- during pregnancy were tolerable. Still, I still turned up and would not simply call the office for a sick leave because I know it would trouble others.

Even for monthly antenatal checkup, by virtue, one should take a leave for those appointments.

Who would do the pregnant coworker's job?

Every employee in an organisation has their own role and workload. Can you imagine by having someone taking leave, and you are given her job on top of what you have to finish? Will the boss pay you more as you are doing two-person job?

Worse, you found out through the pregnant coworker's instagram story that she was just lying at home binging on Netflix because she was not in the mood of working.

The society, including the boss, would likely not to argue about "discipline" when it comes to pregnant ladies. Because such an action would deem as harsh and subject to public criticise or even being charged at Court for discrimination.

It also means depsite countless "absent from work for being pregnant", they will still get their month end salary without questions.

The trend definitely continues after the baby is born...

After a very hard work at the labor room, of course a mother deserves a long maternity leave and give due care for the newborn.

Most private companies in Malaysia give an average of two-month leave for that crucial moment, while the government will give three months.

Trying to be mean here.... Obviously, she knows that she would be entitled for this long leave once she gets pregnant.

So, why there is no courtesy of doing her job properly while still being able to go to work while the baby is still in her tummy? at least the other coworkers would not do her work during her entire  nine months pregnancy plus the two months maternity leave?

Sigh. I guess this is just bad attitude.

"The baby needs my attention, so bye my 'caring' workers"

The cute little baby will make the mother want to spend more time for their newborns. Thus, probably the vicious cycle of dumping new mom's work to other coworkers, because they are the only NEW MOM in the world with ADORABLE KIDS.
