Restoran Geylang Lor9 (Fresh Frog Porridge) Lintas Square

The famous frog meat delicacy from Geylang, Singapore has arrived in Kota Kinabalu!!

The newly opened international chain Geylang Lor9 (wholly owned by Strategy Achievement Sdn Bhd) at Lintas Square (behind Maybank) will definitely make someone to say yes to the “exotic” food and look forward to next visit.

Before I reveal the signature delicacies of the restaurant, let me share on why fresh frogs are good for human being especially growing children.

According to its managing director Andy Goh, Chinese believes the meat has high protein and low fats.

“They feed frog porridge to young kids, especially those who just start to toddle around.

“It is like whichever part of body is weak, you eat certain part of frog to strengthen them,” he said during a recent opening of the restaurant.

Andy and his partner Soh Cheng Boon realised there were demands on frog meats among people as they traveled to many places including Singapore, Cambodia and other Southeast Asia countries.

Both, who are from Sabah, believe there is a market in Kota Kinabalu to serve such delicacy to people.

Tourists from China including Hong Kong and Macau are still the largest group of visitors to Sabah, recording 304, 860 arrivals in 2014 and 360,361 arrivals in 2013.

The restaurant of about 50 seating operates daily from 6pm until 2am.

Among the Chef’s recommendation include Claypot dried chili frog, Claypot Spring Onion frog and Sliced garlic frog (RM26 per 2 pieces, and RM38 per 3 pieces).

Sliced garlic frog

I was lucky to have sampled all three must-have dishes. I preferred the sliced garlic frog most for its potato-chip-like garlic which went well with the deep fried frog.
Claypot Spring onion frog

Claypot spring onion brought up the fragrance of the sauce while claypot dried chili frog had deeply seeped into the frog meat.

Pouring in those special sauces imported from Singapore into perfect congee.
Andy Goh elaborated that those meats were freshly obtained from local farmers.

“We don’t use frozen meat as it will give tough texture and will not be fresh.
“But we use special sauces imported from Singapore,” he said, adding local cooks had underwent special training in the Lion city.

Plain porridge, which is cooked to perfect consistency and served warm, is charged at RM3 a bowl. Plain rice is at RM1 each.

If you are not fan of frogs, it has side dishes such as mixed style chicken, Thai style chicken and lemon sauce chicken priced at RM12.

Preserved radish omelette, onion omelette and vegetables are priced at RM8.50.

Smooth eggs fried with Sabah Vege.

For drinks, they serve herbal tea and soft drinks at RM2.
